Man strength is revered throughout the Caribbean, where it is also known as fourman strength. Popular in the root tonics served throughout the islands, it is said to make a man feel invincible. It also helps with male impotence. Its medicinal properties are not limited to men, however, as it is also prescribed for removing clots and discharge after childbirth, for postpartum depression, and as a uterine tonic. It is a small, woody herb that grows in wet areas and stands erectly. It has very small evergreen leaves, and round, thin stems. It is a bitter, and should therefore not
be consumed by pregnant women.

PROPERTIES AND USE:
Stomachic, tonic, aphrodisiac, analgesic, and is used to treat diabetes, postpartum depression, blood clots after childbirth, edema, skin conditions, male impotence, urinary tract infections
TRADITIONAL PREPARATION:
As a stomachic, tonic, aphrodisiac, and to
treat diabetes, urinary tract infections, and post-childbirth symptoms, a handful of root is soaked in 1 liter rum and taken as a shot twice per day. For skin conditions, boil a small handful of root in 1 gallon water for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to soak overnight. Strain, and use as a wash.
